About

Hello. I’m a freelance writer, columnist and editor. You could say I’m a journalist. What goes of my pop?
I used to work with Mumbai Mirror, which let me engage in all kinds of fun such as meet Wilbur Sargunaraj, trespass in Singapore and ask Mahakshay Chakraborty what he thinks of Gunda. Sometimes, I would slip out of office for an entire week to meet charming doggies. I also guest write for other publications. Once, I went to a kibbutz and cleaned toilets for two months. I even wrote about waxing my lady bits. I can fake deep social concern given the right opportunity.

My other blog, Swasta Ani Masta, has become a column in Mumbai Mirror. I also write a fortnightly column on companion animals in the same newspaper. My work has been published and plagiarised by international publications. This one is legit, incidentally.

If you’d like me to write for you, drop me a line at mitali.parekh at gmail.com.

I live with Tushar Burman. He’s nice in the way that whenever he goes to the loo, he asks if I want anything. We’re always luring dogs.

I look better than I photograph, am shyer than I seem and better with babies than expected.

  1. Hi,

Followed you from Ketaki’s blog. Must say I love your blog and am a regular reader. I love Boo because he bears a freakish resemblance to my dog which I had to give away to a ‘Dog institute’ couple of years ago. Looking at Boo’s pics brings back some lovely memories. Do not worry I am not stalking your baby just an avid animal lover!
On another note, you look VERY familiar for some reason I feel I have seen you somewhere.

  2. Hi Saritha,
Why did you have to give your dog away? I’ll tell Boo he has a web stalker; I’m sure he’ll bring out the ball to play. He’s easy like that.
About looking familiar, I get that a lot. No seriously. I have a generic ‘every girl’ face.
But if you know Ketaki from Bahrain, I went to the same school. May be that’s where you remember me from.
Thank you for the kind thoughts. I can rent you Boo anytime you need a face to squish. Seriously. Take him away. For a few hours at least. I’ll pay you.

  3. Oh god it is a small world! I went to ISB too, probably thats where I remember you from.
Boo is the cutest pet I have seen since giving mine away. As for the uncanny resemblance, I will post a pic of Dash soon and you will realise what I am talking about.
Must say Boo is a far healthier version of Dash as Dash is not a fancy breed. I had to give her away after I got married and moved away from India as nobody wanted to take care of her. I had her for 7 yrs.
I am happy to be Boo’s official web stalker! Tell him he hasnt seen the end of me.

  4. I was a year behind KK, so your junior too, I’m assuming. Boo just pretends to be a fancy breed to get the chicks. Actually I stole him from a fucker who bought him and his sibling because they were Labradors. His sibling died due to negligence and Boo was wasting away.
I personally prefer my dogs to be big and stupid. Don’t care about breeds much.

  5. Hey,

I am glad to read about your visit to Shirpur. I was born in there and still have lots of bonds (aka relatives). I have fond memories of place and around it.

I am hoping to visit Shirpur and spend some time there in my next visit to India.

  6. As cool as the *Monks of Cool?

*The Monks of Cool, whose tiny and exclusive monastery is hidden in a really cool and laid-back valley in the lower Ramtops, have a passing-out test for a novice. He is taken into a room full of all types of clothing and asked: Yo, my son, which of these is the most stylish thing to wear?
And the correct answer is: Hey, whatever I select.

  7. I just discovered your blog and followed your link to Tushar’s. What a power house of creativity and thought-provoking insights you two are. Love the writing and look forward to reading more.

  9. So good to hear that Booboo is a rescue dog. My husband and I adopted Ozzy from our local rescue society 8 months ago and he is the most adorable, naughty and loving as hell creation. This is our first visit to Mumbai after we got him so our heart goes out to all the stray dogs we see on the streets. Is there a number we can call to make sure these loving pooches get their regular shots and are well taken care of? Please help us help them. Please write to me at ratwani@gmail.com.

  10. Hello Tatya,
